The "lady" in Ladybug refers to the Virgin Mary. Legend has it that farms in Europe were invaded by pests during the Middle Ages, so farmers began praying to the Virgin Mary to save their crops. Soon, ladybugs arrived and saved the day. Farmers began calling ladybugs "our lady's birds" or "lady beetles."
Ladybug is a world traveler scattered around the world. There are over 6,000 species of this bug. Ladybugs are voracious predators of insects - making them a lucky find in anyone's garden. The most common colors of Ladybug, red and black, serve as a warning signal to birds and other predators that they are toxic, so they should avoid them.
When Ladybug appears in your life, it is acting as an omen of good luck. Your wishes and dreams may be about to be fulfilled, so prepare yourself. In fact, take this opportunity to reach new heights and strive for higher goals.
An important aspect of Ladybug spirit medicine is that we're being asked to patiently await these new developments. It isn't time to rush toward them or push into our progress. Instead, we need to allow the space for them to settle into our lives, as they will arrive in Divine timing. The ladybug symbolizes that, with patience, all will work out in our highest good.
Folklore also tells us that if Ladybug lands on you, someone is trying to get a message to you. Ladybug can also come as confirmation that you are on the right path. Your spiritual development is on track, and you'll see greater progress soon as a result.
Various cultures trust Ladybug’s ability to foretell the future. In Slavic regions, they ask Ladybug questions about their fate, e.g., about the direction from which something (or someone) will come. In Norway, if you and your date see a Ladybug at the same time, you are destined for romance.
In the past week or two, I've had multiple encounters with Ladybugs. Since they are active in the Fall, it's not that unusual to see a few, however, in each case, they seemed to stick with me for a long time. One I discovered while I was driving stayed on my car the entire way home - no wind could deter this messenger! The same occurred as I found Ladybug on an exterior door - despite going in and out and it being right at the handle, no amount of activity was enough for it to take flight. And finally, Ladybug landed on me while sitting on my deck and stayed there happily resting while I read my book. Clearly, there was a strong message being sent to me.
I am excited for all of us to receive some good news and hope everyone is on a steady path in their spiritual development. I love positive messages, and this was one I especially welcomed. Just knowing that all things will work out in our highest good is a message worth receiving! :)
